Both MRI and CT produce detailed cross-sectional images, but they use different technology:

When is CT scan better?
CT scans are preferred for:

Radiation exposure
This is one of the most significant differences:
• CT scan: Uses ionising radiation. A typical chest CT delivers about 7 mSv - equivalent to about 4 years of natural background radiation. • MRI: No radiation at all. Uses magnetic fields and radio waves.
For a single scan, the radiation from CT is not considered dangerous. But for patients who need frequent imaging (e.g., cancer monitoring), MRI may be preferred when it can provide the same diagnostic information.
