Find a clinic for your mammography

Booking through
Radly is simple.

If the clinic hasn’t acknowledged your request after 24 hours, Radly will follow up. We check in by SMS during daytime hours where SMS is available and you haven’t opted out. Reply N if you haven’t been contacted and our team will follow up. Acknowledgment does not mean an appointment is booked.

What mammography is used for

Common reasons your doctor may recommend mammography.

Investigating breast symptoms

Diagnostic mammograms investigate lumps, pain, nipple discharge, or skin changes found by you or your doctor.

Following up screening results

If a BreastScreen result needs a closer look, a diagnostic mammogram provides extra views of the area.

3D tomosynthesis

Layer-by-layer breast imaging that improves detection in dense breast tissue.

Monitoring after treatment

Regular surveillance mammograms after breast cancer treatment, as recommended by your specialist.

Mammography: cost, referral & preparation

Cost & bulk billing

Diagnostic mammograms referred by a doctor are Medicare-eligible and bulk billed at many clinics. Separately, BreastScreen Tasmania offers free screening mammograms every two years for women aged 40 and over, no referral required. That program is separate from the diagnostic clinics listed on Radly.

Referral & Medicare

A doctor's referral is required for a diagnostic mammogram and Medicare rebate. If you have symptoms (a lump, pain, discharge), see your GP for a referral rather than waiting for routine screening.

Preparing for your mammography

  • Avoid using deodorant, talcum powder, or creams on your chest and underarms on the day. They can affect the images.
  • Wear a two-piece outfit so you only need to undress from the waist up.
  • If you have previous mammograms from another provider, bring them or arrange for them to be sent.
  • Schedule for the week after your period if your breasts are tender.

Mammography FAQs

How do I find mammography clinics near me?

Search Mammography clinics on Radly by suburb or postcode, compare bulk billing and reviews, and request your booking online with your referral. No phone calls needed. The clinic confirms your appointment directly.

Can I request mammography online?

Yes. Pick a clinic on Radly, select your scan and preferred time, attach your referral, and send your booking request in about 30 seconds. The clinic contacts you to confirm. Appointments for mammography are usually 2–7 days.

What is the difference between a screening and diagnostic mammogram?

Screening mammograms check for changes in women with no symptoms and are available free through BreastScreen. Diagnostic mammograms investigate a specific symptom or follow up an abnormal screen, need a doctor's referral, and are performed at radiology clinics.

Does a mammogram hurt?

The breast is compressed briefly during each image, which can be uncomfortable but only lasts a few seconds per image. Scheduling after your period, when breasts are less tender, can help.

How long does a mammogram take?

The appointment usually takes about 20–30 minutes, with each breast imaged from two angles.
